Easterly was painted by the American Andrew Wyeth, one of my favorite artists. Wyeth, the youngest son of N. C. Wyeth — and perhaps the most famous and controversial in the art world — has upheld the flag of realism for years in the face of increasing abstractionism, simply by going his own way and painting the world as he sees it. Wyeth divided his time for years between homes in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, the countryside of his youth, and a summer home in Cushing, Maine, which is where this painting was probably done:
