When you think of Cher, several things come to mind, don’t they? Yes, I know; Mask, Silkwood, and Moonstruck aside, though, you usually conjure up a mental picture of a woman completely, wonderfully, outrageously over the top in terms of style. Nails a good 3-5 centimeters out from her fingertips; hairstyles, headdresses or wigs that set the standard for extreme hair for years; and those Bob Mackie costumes…! My memories go back to those days of the Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, followed by Cher and then the original show’s revival. You almost never knew what the woman was going to come out in. When Bob Mackie (site, Wikipedia) goes to work on her, you can almost always count on something sensational.
Harper’s currently offers two portraits of Cher for your Second Life home. First, go back to the Seventies; Cher has probably just come off stage from doing a torch number on the Comedy Hour, and is posing for a quick photo before heading to the dressing room for yet another change. She’s wearing a one-shouldered sheath of black and white bugle beads and sequins in a sort of flame design, with a cloche headdress of black coq feathers frosted with glitter.

Black and white matting, wood frame; available at my OnRez store or in-world vendors for L$75.
Cher could be (and can be) quite classy when she wants, though. Another interpretation of the original fashion chameleon was done as part of a fashion spread for Vogue magazine in approximately 1974: a series of pieces with her in a dress emblematic of each decade from the Twenties to the Seventies. Her Seventies photo was picked up and reused on the cover of Time: Cher was in a sort of pantsuit that was not much more than ostrich feathers and spangles on a nude body stocking. But the Forties dress she wore is less well known, and far more spectacular in its simplicity. Cher and Mackie decided to channel the Dior New Look with a black strapless gown, cut high over the right. The left breast is covered by silver satin, hung with crystal teardrops, which echo her earrings. She is swathed in a silver satin stole that may even be a sort of ruff for the dress itself! She also wore this on the television show, but few people remember this appearance as well as the more spectacular confections Cher usually appeared in.

Silver matting, wood frame with gilded edges; available at my OnRez store or in-world vendors for L$100.
